We offer you the perfect solution for your daily routine.

What do you need to know about cold brew coffee?

What is cold-extracted coffee?

Cold brew coffee refers to a refreshing beverage that, unlike classic iced coffee with ice, never comes into contact with hot water. For this cold-extracted coffee, coarsely ground coffee powder is left to infuse with cold water. Since the extraction takes place without heat, up to 70% less acidity and bitter substances are released. The result is a naturally mild, pleasantly sweet, and highly aromatic coffee beverage.

Which coffee should you choose for cold brew?

Are you looking for the best coffee to make cold brew at home? It all depends on your personal taste. We often recommend light to medium roasts, as they release beautiful fruity notes in the cold drink. On our website, you can buy coffee for cold brew as a Single Origin (from a single country of origin like Kenya or Costa Rica) or as a Blend (a harmonious mix).

Is cold brew coffee good for your health?

Many people wonder: how does cold extraction affect the body, and is cold brew good for you? The answer is a relief for many coffee lovers.

Since cold preparation dissolves almost none of the bitter substances and the more aggressive acids of the coffee, the drink is particularly light on the stomach. Those with a sensitive stomach tolerate this variant significantly better.

In addition, the cold concentrate contains many antioxidants. Since the taste is naturally smoother and sweeter, you can often completely skip adding sugar or syrups, saving calories and protecting your teeth.

How do you prepare a cold brew iced coffee?

Looking for a simple recipe to make at home? You only need water and an excellent ground coffee for cold brew.

  1. The ratio: Use about 100 g of coarsely ground coffee per 1 liter of cold water.
  2. Mixing: Place the coffee in your French Press (plunger coffee maker), pour in the filtered cold water, and stir briefly.
  3. Infusion: Do not lower the plunger of the French Press yet. Cover the container and place it in the refrigerator or leave it at room temperature.
  4. Filtering: Once the brewing time is over, slowly press the plunger down and pour the clear cold brew into a carafe.

How long should cold brew coffee steep?

When asking how to prepare a cold brew iced coffee and how long the infusion should last, the ideal value varies between 12 and 24 hours.

  • 12 to 15 hours at room temperature are often enough to get a clear and floral aroma.
  • 18 to 24 hours in the refrigerator are ideal if you want a strong and full-bodied concentrate, to be diluted later with ice cubes, water, or milk.

Note: Do not leave the coffee to infuse for significantly longer than 24 hours, otherwise unwanted bitter substances will be released.

Why does the perfect coffee moment often end in frustration?

Has this ever happened to you? You want to enjoy a fresh, mild coffee on a hot afternoon, but the iced coffee you prepared tastes watery, too bitter, or unpleasantly sour. You try different varieties, buy tiny 250g bags that run out after a few days, and over the weekend you suddenly find yourself out of stock. The frustration is high, because true coffee pleasure should be simple and relaxing. Having to continuously buy new packs disrupts your routine and, in the long run, weighs on your wallet.

Frequently asked questions about cold-extracted coffee

What is the difference between Cold Brew and classic iced coffee with ice?

Classic iced coffee is extracted hot and then cooled quickly with ice cubes. A true cold brew coffee, on the other hand, is extracted from the very beginning exclusively with cold water over the course of many hours, which gives it a distinctly milder and less bitter aroma.

What is the difference between regular coffee powder and ground coffee for cold brew?

Regular coffee powder for filter or espresso machines has a very fine grind. If you use it for a cold extraction, the result will be cloudy, muddy, and extremely bitter. Coffee ground specifically for cold extraction, however, has a coarse texture, similar to sea salt.

Can you buy ready-made cold brew coffee online?

Yes, it is possible to buy ready-made cold brew, often packaged in bottles or cans. However, for an optimal and freshest taste experience, it is recommended to buy high-quality coffee in a 1kg format and prepare the cold drink at home with fresh water.

What grind level is needed for cold extraction?

A very coarse grind is needed for preparation, which corresponds roughly to the consistency of coarse sea salt. A coffee powder that is too fine leads to over-extraction, making the cold drink cloudy, gritty, and unpleasantly bitter.

What does cold brew coffee naturally taste like?

Cold brew naturally has a very mild, smooth taste and possesses a fine chocolatey or fruity sweetness. Since cold water dissolves almost none of the acids and bitterness, the drink is pleasantly pleasant even without the addition of sugar or milk.

Can you drink cold brew coffee with milk?

Yes, cold brew goes great with milk or plant-based alternatives like oat or almond drinks. Since the coffee concentrate is very intense, the full flavor of the coffee is optimally preserved even after combining it with milk.

What should you pay attention to when buying cold brew coffee online?

At the time of purchase, pay attention to the roast date, the origin of the beans, and the roast level. High-quality online stores offer beans from artisanal roasteries, roasted specifically with a light to medium profile to avoid bitter notes in the final drink.

Can you also buy decaffeinated coffee directly ground for cold brew?

Yes, you can buy high-quality decaffeinated coffee (Decaf) already coarsely ground in the 1kg format. This allows you to prepare a refreshing and stomach-friendly cold drink, completely caffeine-free, excellent also for late evening.

For cold preparation, is it better to buy Single Origin ground coffee or a Blend?

If you want to discover the typical and authentic taste of a single country, buy a Single Origin coffee. For a particularly balanced, round, and consistent flavor profile over time, ground coffee blends (Blend) are ideal instead.

How many grams of ground coffee from the 1kg pack are needed for a liter of water?

It depends on the desired intensity. For a ready-to-drink and mild beverage, usually 70 to 100 grams of coarsely ground coffee are used per liter of cold water. If you want to prepare a strong concentrate instead, about 150-200 grams of powder are used.
